Description

Disclaimer: I am not a photographer. The only editing that's been done is some cropping/matting. This was taken during my March 2011 Arizona Roadtrip, at a Phoenix Zoo.

Though it's crappy, feel free to use it as stock. Just be sure to link back to this deviation so others can find the stock as well.

P.s. I have no idea what kind of bird this is, but I thought he was purty :3

This reminds me of a blue-eared pheasant ( [link] )... but it's clearly not. Its legs above the tarsus is bare, the feet are yellow instead of pink, the tuft doesn't seem to originate from the beak let alone be two tufts, and the eye isn't the right colour. Now granted, it could be a mutt, and I still think it's part of the galliforme order ( chickens, turkeys, pheasants, grouse, etc. ). It's hard to see if it has an eye wattle, which is what really sells a pheasant.

Note, breeding season wattles cover the whole face: [link]
Non-breeding season are hardly noticeable: [link]

The red skin on the face, four toes ( three forward, one small one backwards ), and beak are all ground-feeding characteristics, as is the fact that the primaries appear to be shorter than the secondary feathers... and that short, blunt tail... round body...

I wonder what it could be!
