I installed them as the README said, but the tools/brushes aren't appearing anywhere.

Not like I'm any good at drawing to begin with...

read the readme again. you have to manually create the brushes... they don't just appear.

This is absolutely spectacular. I've been having issues in SAI regarding color, and I think you just solved all of my problems with these -- brushes were the main reason I missed Photoshop. Thanks so much, and I'll refer other artists here, for sure!

No. If you read my journals I'm on an extended hiatus where I pop in a few times a year--so forgive me, it takes awhile to get to my messages. I'm trying to sort through all the ones you left and see what it is I need to help with--so give me a little bit to figure out the problem. Take deep breaths.

hello,  i've been having a problem with the textures.
When i added them it got rid of all the textures in the menu. Now it only says "textures" and "paper textures"
i tried rebooting and opening sai from the original folder, nothing worked.
i would like to have it fixed soon
thank you ^^

It's nearly impossible to know  what went wrong without seeing exactly what you did, but i have a few guesses:

1) you may have overwritten the entirety of your .conf files with the new texture information. you were meant to amend the file with the new information, not replace it.
2) you may have a corrupt .dll -- sai is notorious for .dll's going corrupt and in that case, it will keep the program from loading and saving brushes/textures properly. In this case, you'll have to reinstall to get the proper non-corrupt .dll back.

Try checking your texture .conf files first and see if they've been overwritten first. Also, make sure you don't have more than 100 textures installed. SAI has a limit on the amount of textures/brushes it can load, once you get close to that limit it starts picking and choosing which ones it will load and even if you have them all correctly entered into the folders and files, the program may pretend they don't exist. If neither of those seem to be the problem, reinstall. it's the quickest fix.

Never mind, I found that - however, I cannot select "Open With". I don't get that option. I use a Windows 7 laptop.

Very pretty brushes. c:
I have one question though, as I set up the brushes some match and some don't. I am also very tired, but I have re-read and over checked the setting a lot. :c Your brushes are thinner and finer, which is what I want, but with the matching settings it's not working... ;_;
Sorry to bother you, this is probably durpy to understand.

Thank you for your help. ;A;
P.S., I am new to Sai, durpyness included. xD

try adjusting the brush size - I may have had mine on a smaller setting than what you're initially putting in (I tend to work with very small brushes on a very large canvas). otherwise, probably a setting was entered somewhere wrong (so hard to tell from this end) :)

Hmm, I tried. :c I trried messing with all the settings to get it to work. ;_; I understand it's difficult to tell from that end, that's why I was afraid to ask. xD I Re-read and it seems even with plenty of sleep it's not the same as yours. Would it be helpful if I took a picture of what mine looked like? If not, I will just worry about it another day, I just really like your swirly looking work. 8) Thank you so much! c:

Oh wow, sorry for taking so long. Well, I figured out why it was happening. It's because I do not have a tablet, so I don't have the sensitivity as you do. I feel it's safe to assume you have a tablet? If not, I am still confused. xD Either way, thank you so much!

okay, so on the VERY last step in your "read me"

if you do not want the actual brushes, do you have to do this step? what if you just want the textures, do the brushes still need to be manually set up?

The textures still haven't shown up and I've done the delete and reboot thing 4 times now. How many times should I have to do it (can it still not work after about 4 times, or is this normal), or does this mean that something else is wrong. I've followed your instructions on the readme, I just didn't know if it was expected that it still wouldn't work.

eck... I'm awful at explaining things.

Thanks for the brushes though! I love the airbrush one.

I'd say something else is definitely wrong. let's see if we can trouble shoot it:

1) check to make sure you're using a valid, legal copy of sai.. the pocket version/cracked version won't allow changes to be made most of the time.
2) double check the textures are in the correct folders.
3) make sure you've edited and saved the .conf files.
4) double check you mean textures and not brushes.. because a lot of people get the two confused and don't realize you have to manually add the brushes. the textures should show in the drop down menus.
5) make sure you don't have more than one version of sai installed... I once ran across a person who had unknowingly installed 9 copies and was editing the wrong copy!
6) make sure the program is CLOSED when you're moving over the files/editing the .conf files... or changes may not show until you reboot.

those are the most common problems people tend to have ... I apologize if I sound like i'm talking down to you or anything, but I've learned through 100's of messages that I can't assume that just because someone said they followed the readme that they actually did. 9/10 when people say they followed all the directions they inadvertently missed a step XD it's nothing personal against you. this is simply the fastest way to figure out where things went wrong :)

Ah crap; just got it installed and made all the brushes - closed and reopened the program and they were all gone. Guess I should've read the bit about only working on legal copies of Sai!
Nice brushes though, thanks very much :)

Of course, I understand, don't worry. I have found myself missing obvious steps before.

No, I am using a legit copy, and it's definitely the textures (I noticed when setting them while making the brushes).  They're all in the correct folders, and I did edit and save the files. I might have more than one copy (I hadn't thought of that), but I just checked and I can't see one. I did, however, have two files in my downloads with my license number in them. Opening them only gets me some words that I don't understand
"算Eレ#ワп゙・ゥ「「襖ア/k2譿ギ畢kツトRサ・?ヘEC・/ロu・ ユuェEmAe・ァ95Xシv钁#\」w・癡エSヘヲ・擘紐ユy翼 ・1iJロ帝8HBs+・メ;刺^・哥,"

(oops, have I just put some kind of classified info online?)

But I deleted the second one just a minute ago. I'll try again and hope for the best. Thanks for your suggestions! I think I probably had more than one file. XD

EDIT: Tried again but it still doesn't work.

hrm... there must be something we're missing.. but i can't even begin to think what. i've trouble shooted through hundreds of messages like yours over the years and i've only been unable to help less than a handful. it -may- be a .dll problem. some people have had issues where a .dll went corrupt, but rather than giving any sort of an error message it will refuse to load new settings into the program, or save new brushes within the program. if that's the case, a reinstall of sai should fix it, but it's hard to tell if that's the problem from here. it's sort of a "last resort" fix (just cause it's annoying to do reinstalls XD) but i've had it fix errors in the past when nothing else could be identified.

Already reinstalled it after my 3rd reboot. It might be something to do with my computer. I had another file that wasn't working earlier, maybe there's just a bit of a glitch in my files.
I'll try again tomorrow. My laptop might just need some time to get itself together. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know if I manage to get it to work.

So if I right click the .conf files there is no "open with". I can just open and if I do there's  a weird window saying that there can't be any software found. :/
