I didn't remember falling asleep, but as consciousness crept in at the corners of my mind, I realized that I had.

What a nightmare.

I grumbled under my breath and turned to snuggle farther under my covers, only to discover that my bare-arms pricked uncomfortably. Irritated, I tried to shift positions, hoping to get away from the straw that poked out of my mattress.

Straw?

I furrowed my brow in confusion and struggled to pull myself out of sleep. My head felt muddled, as if I had been asleep for days.

Not asleep – dead. I-I should be dead.

My eyes sprang open, and I bolted upright. Disorientation
